What a Storm!

We had a terrific thunderstorm around supper time.  Jeff was just finishing another box bed in the main garden and Fanny was hiding under the kitchen table when it hit.  TV had warned of quarter size hail but there wasn't any.  The rain barrels that Jeff had emptied out today when he filled the compost tea bin were refilled quickly!  Later we found out that a couple of trees in St Mary's Cemetery... by our house... had come down.  Looks like the cemetery guys will be busy tomorrow!  Jeff wants to see if he can get some of the wood chips from those trees.  Looks like they'll be replacing some of the fencing, too.  Part of Herkimer is without power tonight, too, no trafffic lights and some businesses closed.

We really got lucky...nothing came down at the house which is within walking distance of the cemetery...not even the bird's nest that is being built above the door on our stoop!  This is the 3rd or 4th year a nest has been built there.  This year they're using a lot of moss...making the sides quite high. Maybe Fanny can help keep the squirrels away.
